The Supreme Court on November 6 approved new guidelines for calculating child support to ensure a uniform and evidence-based approach in determining financial obligations. The guidelines will help judges assess support payments when no valid written agreement exists or when changes in circumstances require recomputation. They also consider the financial capacity of responsible adults, childcare duties, and the child’s basic needs.
The high court said the measure aims to streamline court proceedings while ensuring that financial support and caregiving responsibilities serve the best interests of the child. A copy of the approved guidelines has yet to be released.
