The Philippine National Police (PNP) has not received a formal request from the International Criminal Court (ICC) to provide security protection for witnesses in the case against former President Rodrigo Duterte, PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said.

Nartatez said the police force had also received no communication from the international tribunal regarding the identities of the witnesses. He added that the PNP is prepared to respond to any security concerns, depending on the circumstances. The ICC prosecution has sought protective and special measures for 55 witnesses from the Philippines and abroad who may face various security risks. Duterte was arrested on March 11, 2025, and transferred to The Hague to face charges of crimes against humanity over his anti-drug campaign. His trial is scheduled to begin on November 30, 2026.
