The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is set to file complaints against individuals allegedly involved in the improper disposal of 25 pet remains in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, NBI Director Melvin Matibag said Friday. The complaints include alleged estafa and violations of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, with the agency also investigating possible violations of the Consumer Act of the Philippines. The case involves three cats and 22 dogs found inside plastic bags and sacks in a vacant lot in Barangay Minuyan Proper.
Initial findings linked identification tags and weight markings on some remains to a pet crematorium in Bacoor, Cavite, which allegedly arranged for a Bulacan facility to handle the cremation. However, investigators believe the couple managing the Bulacan facility contracted individuals to dispose of the animals instead of cremating them as the volume of remains increased. The NBI has also requested an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order against three individuals to monitor their international travel while the investigation and possible legal proceedings continue.
