Private prosecutor Lorna Kapunan said Friday that Vice President Sara Duterte could become the strongest evidence against herself if she takes the witness stand in her impeachment trial, citing allegations of around P817 million in unexplained wealth and her declared business interests. Kapunan questioned whether Duterte would take an oath to tell the truth, recalling her refusal to do so during previous House hearings. She also cited her declared interests in two companies, which she said raise constitutional concerns.
The Senate impeachment court earlier admitted Duterte’s SALNs dating back to 2007, along with bank and corporate records under her name and that of her husband, Manases Carpio, as evidence. Meanwhile, Duterte’s defense team has listed at least 24 initial witnesses ahead of the trial’s resumption on November 9.
