Columnist Ramon Tulfo apologized Thursday after admitting that he spread false information claiming former House Speaker Martin Romualdez had been secretly leaving and returning to the Quezon City Jail-Male Dormitory. In a Facebook post, Tulfo said he received incorrect information from a source and failed to verify the allegations before sharing them with his readers. He acknowledged that his report was inaccurate and described the mistake as embarrassing and humiliating.

Tulfo had previously claimed that jail officials allegedly switched off the facility’s electricity whenever Romualdez left and returned to prevent CCTV footage from recording his movements. The allegations prompted the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to launch an investigation. Meanwhile, the Sandiganbayan Third Division ordered BJMP officials to testify regarding Romualdez’s detention status. Tulfo admitted responsibility for the report, saying he should have checked and cross-checked the information before publishing it.
