CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Anti-narcotics operatives arrested an alleged high-value drug suspect and seized suspected shabu worth approximately P714,000 during a buy-bust operation in Barangay 35 here on Thursday night.

The suspect, identified only by the alias “Atang,” 42, was apprehended at around 10:35 p.m. in a joint operation led by the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU) Team 1, with support from local police units, intelligence operatives, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-10 (PDEA-10).

Authorities recovered nine heat-sealed sachets containing around 105 grams of suspected shabu, along with a smartphone, a red sling bag, a motorcycle, and a P1,000 marked bill used in the operation. The suspect is currently detained at the Maharlika Custodial Facility, while the seized illegal drugs have been turned over to the Regional Forensic Unit-10 for laboratory examination. Police are preparing charges for violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (Republic Act No. 9165) against the suspect.

Police Regional Office-10 Director Brig. Gen. Nestor Babagay Jr. commended the operatives and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to targeting major players in the illegal drug trade. “We will continue to pursue individuals involved in the illegal drug trade, particularly those identified as high-value targets. Our operations will remain focused, intelligence-driven, and within the bounds of the law,” Babagay said. “We will not allow illegal drugs to threaten the safety and well-being of our communities.”
