Senator Robin Padilla on Friday said he envies Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa for being wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC), adding that he would not urge his fellow senator to surrender to a foreign institution. Padilla questioned the ICC’s authority, citing the absence of a local court-issued arrest warrant against Dela Rosa, who is wanted over his alleged involvement in former president Rodrigo Duterte’s drug war.
The senator made the remarks after arriving at the Department of Justice (DOJ) to attend a preliminary investigation into an obstruction of justice complaint linked to his role in escorting Dela Rosa out of the Senate premises in May. Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police has formed a task force to locate Dela Rosa, while Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has offered a P50-million bounty for information leading to his arrest.
