Sony has unveiled a new generation of Walkman portable music players, reviving one of the most recognizable names in consumer electronics nearly five decades after it revolutionized personal listening. The company introduced three new models, the NW-ZX900, NW-WM1AM3, and flagship NW-WM1ZM3, aimed at audiophiles seeking high-quality sound beyond what smartphones typically offer.

First launched in 1979, the original Walkman transformed the music industry by making portable listening mainstream through cassette tapes. Over the years, the brand evolved through CD, MP3, and digital audio formats, becoming a cultural icon for generations of music fans.

Sony’s latest Walkman lineup reflects renewed interest in dedicated audio devices, featuring high-resolution audio support, upgraded digital amplification technology, Android-based streaming capabilities, and enhanced displays. The new models are positioned in the premium segment, with prices ranging from about $1,900 to $5,900.

The launch comes as demand grows among audio enthusiasts for specialized music players capable of delivering higher-quality sound and longer battery life than smartphones. Sony said the new Walkman series is designed to provide an elevated listening experience for users with high-end headphones and extensive digital music libraries
