Google will disable its artificial intelligence (AI) tools by default for K-12 student accounts following criticism over the integration of AI features into classroom platforms. Announced Tuesday, the policy covers Gemini, Gemini Notebook, Gemini in Classroom and AI-powered Search, which will remain inaccessible until school administrators enable them.

The changes will begin rolling out in the United States before expanding worldwide, although Google has yet to announce an implementation date. The move aims to give schools greater control over students’ AI use amid growing concerns about academic integrity and the impact of artificial intelligence on education.
