Lawmakers are pushing for the passage of the proposed National Children’s Nutrition Act, which seeks to address stunting and malnutrition among Filipino children through an expanded feeding program covering daycare centers and public schools. According to the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EdCom 2), the measure will assign the Department of Social Welfare and Development and local government units to provide supplemental feeding for children aged 2 to under 5, while the Department of Education will oversee feeding programs for kindergarten to Grade 6 learners.
It will also extend nutritional support to pregnant adolescent students through fortified meals and micronutrient supplements. The proposed law further mandates regular nutrition monitoring, milk supplementation, nutrition education, and annual budget adjustments based on inflation, with the Department of Health serving as the lead implementing agency.
