The Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seized 200 Kilograms of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P1.36 billion during a joint inspection at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) on Wednesday. The illegal drugs were found concealed inside stacks of cardboard boxes loaded in a 40-foot container that originated from Lao PDR and was shipped through Haiphong, Vietnam.

Authorities said the shipment was intercepted following an intelligence report from the PDEA Intelligence Service, which prompted a thorough inspection of the container upon its arrival at the port.

Personnel from the BOC and PDEA conducted the examination of the shipment, leading to the discovery of the suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu.

Also present during the inspection were Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla, BOC Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, and other government officials.

The seizure forms part of the government’s intensified campaign against illegal drugs and efforts to prevent the entry of large-scale narcotics shipments into the country. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify the individuals and groups behind the smuggling attempt.
