BATANGAS CITY — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday led the ceremonial first flow of gas at the Malampaya Onshore Gas Plant in Batangas City, marking a significant step toward strengthening the Philippines’ energy security and reducing reliance on imported fuel. Marcos said the project is expected to improve electricity reliability and help stabilize power costs amid rising global oil prices and the effects of El Niño.
The Malampaya Phase 4 project connects the Malampaya East-1 and Camago-3 wells, adding approximately 41.46 billion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas reserves and potentially extending the gas field’s productive life by six years. Meanwhile, Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto expressed hope that the expanded gas production would attract more foreign investments, generate employment opportunities, and improve livelihoods in the province.
